Purgatory is the main location of the game Pitstop in Purgatory, in which the characters wander and interact overall. It is divided into 6 rooms plus a special room featured only in the DLC.
The Waiting Hall[]
The Waiting Hall is the first place Astrid (and every other human) meets when they come to Purgatory. As the name suggests, it works as a "waiting room", from where you can see the tunnel to the other side, the entrance to the Ouroboros Bar and a sign indicating the Wishing Well.
By clicking on the scenery, you can interact with some other objects: a "Departing" Sign, an Ominous Graffiti, a Tacky Neon Sign, a Skull Doodle and an Off-limits Sign (which you can trespass in Guide's route).
The Wishing Well[]
The Wishing Well is one of the most modest locations in Purgatory, consisting only of a Colorful Sign (with the words "Make a Wish!") and The Wishing Well itself.
However, The Wishing Well holds some magical properties. According to Ezrebeth, if you throw objects into the well and repeat the magic words "Money. Moola. Macchiato", you can get something similar to what you have thrown. Rahel also comments about this saying that she saw "many borachios toss objects into it, somehow ending up with balsam"[1].
Until now, no one knows how it actually works, or why does Purgatory has something of the sort in the first place.
Ouroboros Bar[]
The Ouroboros Bar is a place where the souls of Purgatory usually gather to drink and eat, although they don't really need it[2]. It is also the most crowded place, no matter which route the player chooses. From here it is also possible to head to the personal rooms.
The Guide is also responsible for serving the souls as "bartender/barista/chef/sommelier/you name it" for thousands of souls at the same time, while greeting new arrivals. This is only possible thanks to his omnipresence.[3]
By clicking on the scenario, it's possible to interact with a range of objects: the Dartboard, the Mounted Clock (always at 6 o'clock), an "Ouroboros" Poster, a Liquor Cabinet, Rustic Candles and a Stylish Menu.
Astrid's Room[]
During their stay in Purgatory, each soul has the right to a room, according to their personal tastes in life.
Astrid's bedroom secure essential aspects of her personality: her passion for acting, her love for pop culture and her preoccupation with appearance. It also holds many important memories that'll be uncovered as she progresses in the story.
You can interact with a variety of items: a Framed Diploma, a Mirror, a Drawer, a Cabinet, The View, a Chandelier, a Bed, a TV Show Poster, a Movie Poster, some Books, a Comb and a Penholder.
Rahel's Room[]
Rahel's room transmits the same energy as her: mystical, calm and cozy. In it, she keeps her strange baubles and also the first one she ever made, her lucky charm, a big purple crystal orb, which is on top of the small drawers.
Clicking on the scenery you can interact with the following items: a Large Drawer, a Jewelery Box, Small Drawers, a Crystal Orb, Rahel's Bed, a Parchment, and a Landscape Painting.
Locke's Room[]
Locke's room is a minimalist, somewhat messy and passable place, reflecting his sloppy personality. There is not much to say about it, since it doesn't have much personality itself.
Clicking on the scenery you can interact with the following items: Drawers, Curtains, a Plastic Bag, Stuff, a Cool Jacket, a Cupboard, a Pile of Clothes, and a Empty Bottle.
Party Room (DLC exclusive)[]
To celebrate the departure of all her friends from Purgatory, Astrid decides to throw a party. It's a pretty simple event, but full of exciting moments and dialogues between likely and unlikely characters. It is possible to return to the Ouroboros Bar by clicking on the door.
Clicking on the scenery you can interact with some items, in addition to the characters: The Void, a Bookshelf, a Bottle, a Party Poster and the Jukebox (which has a secret[4]).
Trivia[]
- In Act 2, it is implied that at some point, there used to be shadow flies in Ouroboros.[5]
- During Solo Route, it is understood that the Ouroboros Bar clock shows the time of death of each inhabitant[6], therefore showing a different time depending on the person looking at it.
- The dialogue interaction with the '"Ouroboros" Poster' in Rahel's route can be a tribute to the game Undertale.[7]
- In Solo Route, if the player interacts with the mirror in Astrid's room, she will notice that The Guide doesn't have a reflection.[8]
- The dialogue interaction with the TV Show Poster in Solo route can be a tribute to the anime Cowboy Bebop.[9]
- The secret song of the jukebox is the theme from The Belly, a place from Meanwhile in Riva, which is one of Tymedust's old projects.
